Femara is used for the treatment of post-menopause breast cancer. 
Femara is a powerful Aromatase Inhibitor that was developed to fight breast cancer. For athletes and bodybuilders, it is a drug used to combat the estrogenic side effects of anabolic steroids water-retention, acne and gynocomastia. 

Description: 
Femara is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of local or metastatic breast cancer that is hormone receptor positive or has an unknown receptor status in postmenopausal women. 

Femara is intended for use only by women who are no longer of childbearing age. Possible candidates must have already ceased to menstruate. It is often used in patients who have already undergone other cancer treatments, such as radiation, chemotherapy, and used other cancer drugs This nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor may help prevent any remaining cancer cells from spreading. 

Femara has been used for ovarian stimulation by fertility doctors since 2001 because it has fewer side-effects than clomiphene(Clomid) and less chance of multiple gestation. A study of 150 babies following treatment with Femara or Femara and gonadotropins presented at the American Society of Reproductive Medicine 2005 Conference found no difference in overall abnormalities but did find a significantly higher rate of locomotor and cardiac abnormalities among the group having taken Femara compared to natural conception.[3] A larger, follow-up study with 911 babies compared those born following treatment with Femara to those born following treatment with clomiphene.[4] That study also found no significant difference in the rate of overall abnormalities, but found that congenital cardiac anomalies was significantly higher in the clomiphene group compared to the Femara
group. Despite this, India banned the usage of Femara in 2011, citing potential risks to infants.[5] In 2012, an Indian parliamentary committee said that the drug controller office colluded with Femara's makers to approve the drug for infertility in India and also stated that Femara's use for infertility was illegal worldwide;[6] however, such off-label usesare legal in many countries such as the US and UK.[7][8]
The anti-estrogen action of Femara has been shown to be useful in pretreatment for termination of pregnancy, in combination with misoprostol. It can be used in place of mifepristone, which is expensive and unavailable in many countries.[9]
Femara is sometimes used as a treatment for gynecomastia, although it is probably most effective at this if caught in an early stage (such as in users of anabolic steroids).[10][11][unreliable source?]
Some studies have shown that Femara can be used to promote spermatogenesis in male patients suffering from nonobstructiveazoospermia.[12]
